Career and Job resources: Getting started

*O*NET (Occupational Information Network) is the nation's primary source of occupational information. Central to the project is the O*NET database, containing information on hundreds of standardized and occupation-specific descriptors. The database, which is available to the public at no cost, is continually updated by surveying a broad range of workers from each occupation. Information from this database forms the heart of O*NET OnLine, an interactive application for exploring and searching occupations. The database also provides the basis for our Career Exploration Tools, a set of valuable assessment instruments for workers and students looking to find or change careers.

*Occupational Outlook Handbook       Occupational Outlook Handbook

For hundreds of different types of jobs. The Occupational Outlook Handbook tells you:

  • the training and education needed
  • earnings
  • expected job prospects
  • what workers do on the job
  • working conditions

In addition, the Handbook gives you job search tips, links to information about the job market in each State, and more. You can also view frequently asked questions about the Handbook.

*Georgia Career Information Center

Through its Georgia Career Information System (GCIS), it provides current and accurate occupational and educational information to schools and agencies throughout Georgia in order to help young people and adults make informed career choices.

A password is required to access GCIC, contact your library for information, or view the password in Blackboard.
