Jane Austen (1775-1817) was an English author. Though she just completed 6 works in her time, she is revered and still popular to this day. Her novels were social commentary, but one can read deeper and realize her grasp of the intricacies of human behavior, which were a source of great amusement to her. Many have written about her life and work much better than I could. If you're interested, start with the entry on Jane Austen from Magill's Survey of World Literature.
