Finding primary sources

Primary sources are the evidence of history

A primary source is a record of an event or time period created by a participant or an observer; someone who was there. Examples can include:

  • Diaries
  • Memoirs
  • Letters
  • Interviews
  • Photographs
  • Newspaper articles
  • Objects and artifacts
  • Works of art
