Library student assistants: How long can people keep stuff?
The answer to this question depends on what they want to borrow, and whether they are a student, faculty/staff, or a community user. A community user is someone who is not a student or who does not work for Athens Technical College.
Note that materials in the Reference section may only be borrowed by faculty members. So this title may not be checked out by a student:
The system will tell you when the item is due and send a notice to the patron, but it is good to know what our policies are, so they are listed below.
Students
Loans
- Books: 4 weeks, with 2 renewals as long is there are no holds on the item
- DVDs: 3 days
- Laptops: 2 hour in-library use
- Reserve items: it depends. ALMA will tell you.
Fines and fees
Overdue: $.25 per day
If an overdue book is recalled, the $1.00 per day charge begins the date the book was recalled.
Failure to return items on reserve: $.50 per day
Lost materials: $35 non-refundable processing fee in addition to the cost of replacing the item.
Students who owe fines or fail to return books on time will be blocked from receiving their grades or registering. Refer all questions/complaints/solutions about this to a librarian.
Faculty and staff
Loans
- Books: 90 days
- Popular books: 4 weeks
- Reference items: 3 days
Community
Loans
- Books: Only one book at a time! 2 weeks, with 2 renewals as long is there are no holds on the item
- DVDs: may be viewed in the library. They may not be checked out
Fines and fees
Overdue: $.25 per day

Community patrons with overdue fines in excess of $2.00 will be blocked from checking out further materials.
